The base model for the build is a 2018 Harley-Davidson Fat Bob 114. The motorcycle’s central theme and the inspiration behind its customization are the vehicles featured in the Mad Max films. That is why it was conceived as an aggressive, extremely fast machine capable of tackling any terrain, both on and off the road. Combining the name of the base model with the film’s title gave the motorcycle its name: Fat Max.
In the Mad Max films, vehicles were built from whatever parts could be found in a post-apocalyptic world—in other words, from scrap. Fat Max embodies the dirt, chaos and aggression characteristic of the films while retaining the dependable functionality of a Harley-Davidson motorcycle. This is reflected in the use of new components selected or modified to emphasize the machine’s aggressive character while remaining fully functional.
Theme-inspired modifications include:
- a front plough-style engine guard mounted to the lower front section of the frame—it gives the motorcycle an aggressive appearance while protecting the engine from stones thrown up by the front wheel;
- handlebar handguards incorporating the turn signals—they perform an essential road function while protecting the rider’s hands from cold air and obstacles such as branches;
- an adjustable windscreen inspired by an armour plate—it can be adjusted for both position and height, providing protection from wind and flying objects;
- a side pannier made from a fuel can.
